Anevenontas Climbing Routes Q&A

Climbing is more than just a photo of a rock face. It is history, experience, community, sport, and exploration. At anevenontas.gr, we are building an archive of Greece’s crags and climbing routes — with accuracy, respect, and care.

Our goal is to document crags and rock faces, record routes along with their first ascents, honor the people who opened the lines, and provide reliable information for those who follow.

Here, you'll find answers on how to contribute, what to upload, how content is recorded, and the terms of its use. And, most of all, we invite you to take part.

What kind of climbing information is archived on anevenontas.gr?

Every climbing route, regardless of style: single- or multi-pitch, trad, sport, winter climbs, snow or ice lines. And of course, every climbing crag or major wall is included as well.

What is the purpose?

The purpose of Anevenontas is to archive and publish climbing crags, rock faces, and their routes, with information that is, as far as possible, verified and freely accessible to its members.

What information is included in each route?

Each route entry includes the name, first ascents, and grade. Additionally — though not always — it may also contain information about gear and protection, a topo and a written description.

How can I download this information?

You simply need to register. Any logged-in user can download sketches and route lines — either for individual climbs (if available) or for entire rock faces and climbing areas. (Please note: this feature is not yet active, but it will be added very soon.)

Can I upload routes and crags?

Absolutely — that’s the very heart of the project. Archiving the thousands of existing climbing routes, and gathering complete, accurate information about them, is only possible through a collective community effort.

If you'd like to contribute, the only requirement is to register. After that, simply fill in the appropriate forms with the details of the route(s) or crag(s) you wish to submit for publication.

Is the route or crag I upload published immediately?

No. Every new route or crag entry is reviewed by a human editor. This is done both for safety reasons and to ensure accuracy and validity. It’s possible that additional information or clarification may be requested via the email address you provided.

Can I submit corrections or additions to a route’s details?

Yes — if you believe that a route (regardless of whether it was uploaded by you or someone else) needs additional information, has errors that should be corrected, or if you have a better sketch or photo, you can use the dedicated form found within each route page to submit those updates. As always, any information will be published only after it has been verified. You must be logged in to do so.

Can I provide updates on the condition of a route or crag?

Yes — in fact, that’s one of the platform’s key goals: not just recording routes, but also sharing up-to-date information about their current condition. Signage, vegetation, accessibility, and so on. Each route page includes a form where you can submit these updates. Once verified, they will be published.

Are the materials uploaded to anevenontas.gr considered intellectual property?

Yes. All files uploaded to anevenontas.gr remain the intellectual property of the user who submitted them. However, they are freely available for personal use only — not for commercial or professional purposes (e.g. reposting on other websites or in printed publications).

This content — as well as any accompanying material — is provided solely for informational purposes. Any other kind of use requires prior written permission from either anevenontas.gr or the original contributor. Anevenontas.gr urges users not to upload material they do not own. In case of copyright violations, the platform assumes no responsibility.

Anevenontas.gr also reserves the right to publish — or not publish — any content submitted, with or without corrections.

Are the routes safe?

The routes and related information published on anevenontas.gr are verified to the best extent possible. However, you are solely responsible for using this content correctly and safely.

Climbing — and mountain sports in general — inherently involve unpredictability, risk, and the possibility of injury or even death. Anevenontas.gr urges all users to take these realities seriously and proceed with caution.

Climbing is a shared endeavor. If you know a route, have a sketch, or climbed somewhere that’s undocumented, don’t keep it to yourself.

Be part of the effort. Put a crag on the map. Document a line. Share the knowledge — the way only climbers can.
